Japandi and Ikebana orchids

Monday 03 October 2022

Ikebana is making a comeback and, thanks to its minimalist approach to flower arranging, fits in very well with the current ‘Japandi’ lifestyle trend.

The Japandi interior decorating style is based on the natural materials and simplicity offered by the Scandinavian trend, with influences from the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic which embraces imperfection. This new trend combines warmth and serenity with a hint of minimalism and functionality.

While a Scandinavian interior is basically clean and simple, adding stylistic elements from Japanese culture will give the room, house or shop you are decorating a more distinctive identity. The Japandi style offers more possibilities when it comes to adding accessories to create a more ‘home-like’ feeling.

That is why Ikebana fits in so well with this interior style. Ikebana embraces the concept of ‘less is more’, and adds character to an interior through the addition of beautiful flowers and plants.

In this blog, we attached flowers and plant leaves to a rock with string, reflecting the Japandi trend which favours natural materials. This also brings a touch of wabi-sabi imperfection into your creation.

Another advantage to this method is that it precludes the need for environmentally harmful floral foam. If you put the stone in a vase so that the twigs can be put in water, your floral arrangement will last for quite some time!
